Ex Ray Payne Race Car Emerges

Period Team Hartwell Car Tests at Castle Combe

As soon as we arrived to our trackday on Monday we knew this Imp might be pretty special. Sat in the paddock on Avon slicks awaiting a dry line with water beading down its 50+ year old bodywork.

Built and raced in period by one of the most famous Imp tuners on the planet, Team Hartwell and raced by an equally famous driver of his time Ray Payne. This little weapon started off racing back in 1967 with an 850cc lump. The car took the BARC saloon championship with ten 1st's, one 2nd place and no less than 9 lap records. the car raced often at Castle Combe int he 60's and 70's.

Peter stride is now custodian of this lovely British pocket rocket and its great to see that its still used as intended. Peter raced the car back in the80's & 90's in blue and white but has since returned it to Hartwell colours. We are hoping to see this again at one of our retro trackdays in future. If you fancy joining us at a trackday this year head to our events. Below you can jump onboard for a few laps in challenging conditions on slicks.
