In the late 90’s and early 00’s the car modifying culture in the UK and Europe had exploded into a frenzy of tuners offering endless upgrades from body kits and audio, to power and handling upgrades. A whole army of skunkworks shops went about not only offering a catalogue of parts but a drive in drive out package with show cars to market their goods. Breyton who are still today known for their dealings with BMW and aftermarket alloy wheels are thought to have built just a handful of these E46 328i in house. One car had more power and is said to be in a museum in Europe where as this one ended up here in the UK. With just over 17,000 miles on the clock it’s been tucked away from the public eye for decades but now someone has the chance to show it and enjoy it, or have a very unique addition to a collection.

Built on a 1998 first year production car, Breyton threw a whole host of upgrades at it including custom items only available if you were buying the full upgrade package. It was thought to be made to show the brand at the Frankfurt Motorshow. Shortly after it was finished, Khan Design (once V12 Online) imported the car and even before it was registered it was a feature car for BMW Magazine where it sported a number plate borrowed from a Porsche for the shoot. Amongst other things the writeup reports 330bhp and a £15,000 body styling option. Figures of 0-60 times in the 5.9 second region and an unlimited top speed of 175mph make this BMW’s performance match its looks with that tailor made motorsport inspired wide body. The whole ethos behind this car was that it was a road going car capable of the odd trackday and gathering pace on the Autobahn.

Aside from Khan Design it became part of a collection twice. It has been in most recent ownership since 2014 and although it has been driven to France on several occasions for MotoGP and the 24hrs it had remained in dry storage since 2019. Prior to sale it has just had light recommissioning including a MOT, professional detail and a full service. Items included new battery, spark plugs and all fluids including brakes, coolant, engine, gearbox, diff, power steering and fuel. In 2019 it also had front lower arms with HD bushes and a quick shift to help reduce the throw. The car drives very well in spite of its low stance and presents in very good, unrestored condition. For someone looking for something a bit more unique than an M3, a great back story and very low miles, this has to be one of the ultimate Cars & Coffee BMW’s. A true period time warp.

The sale includes extensive history on the car including magazine features, Breyton brochures, BMW manuals in German and English with original service book (Stamped). A folder of receipts, old MOT’s, copies of import papers and other paperwork is also included. Even the Top Marques magazine from its last sale in 2014. During recommissioning it had a classic dash fault for the E46 where the dials go round the clock, a replacement has been fitted and mileage altered to match the previous reading, the original dash is present and can be plugged in. New dash does show battery light flicker on and off but it’s all charging fine. Some spares are also included such as a spare pair of Breyton mirrors.
