Ford used the Focus RS to accelerate its iconic motorsport branding into the noughties backed by a strong rallying campaign. However, RS fans had to wait a whole six year between the Mk1 and Mk2 variants with the latter not being released until 2007. 2010 came along and Ford decided to honour one of its most coveted RS of all time, the RS500, with an end of production limited run of the Mk2. To celebrate, 500 Mk2’s were given matte black bodywork along with an extra 45bhp from the gorgeous sounding 5 pot engine, just 101 cars were allocated for sale on UK shores and as a result prices have been on the rise ever since in quite a dramatic fashion. The tuning assisted by Mountune, included a larger intercooler, larger bore induction and exhaust as well as a tweak to the Ecu software and uprated fuel pump. This resulted in impressive performance for an FWD hot hatch giving a 0-60 of 5.4 seconds and a top speed of 165mph. The Mk2 RS500 was instantly catapulted into collector car history selling out before it even hit dealerships.
This example, one of the last to be built being 482 of 500 and registered in September of 2010, has been with its current owner since 2021 and formed part of a collection of fast Fords that have now been disbanded to alter the collector’s selection of cars. During the last two years it has only been used on a handful of occasions and when not in use has been stored in a dry and clean facility, in fact it has only covered just over 200 miles in that time. The interior remains in good order with the black Recaro seats having little to no wear. The matte black bodywork and Panther black wheels are also in fantastic order. As ever, this RS provides a theatrical and emotional drive for anyone using it with its 5-cylinder burble and aggressive looks, you certainly standout from the crowd. The car has just received a fresh MOT and comes with a current V5C as well as service history and original ford manuals.
The great thing about this RS500 is that it is low mileage, but not so ultra-low that you would not want to use it and enjoy it. So, although a collector car and great for investment, it can also be taken to the many Ford shows throughout the UK without the concern of putting on the miles.
