Elva MkVII Lotus Twin Cam Evocation

Price: £39,995 Ono

Location: Chippenham, Wiltshire

(Historic HTP Papers Now Approved)

The Elva MkVII was designed by Eric Marsdon in order to compete in the under 2-litre sports car category. The cars had success on both sides of the pond in both circuit racing and hill climbing, taking it to the bigger works teams of the period. Today they still act as an excellent entry level into historic racing, especially as an evocation with genuine and period parts included in the build.

This Elva MkVII Evocation has just received a ground up rebuild. Started by the late Ryan Hodges, a well-known fettler of sports racers and finished by Wiltshire based Loaded Gunn Racing. This 60’s sports racer features the legendary period correct 1600cc Lotus Twin Cam, built by JS Motorsport, mated to period correct 5-speed Hewland Mk6 gearbox, a rare find indeed. These cars weigh in at roughly 550kg’s with around 170bhp making for a quick and agile machine with over 300bhp per tonne. The ground up rebuild also included powder coating of the chassis, brand new body panels using genuine Elva moulds, new screen, fresh suspension including shocks, springs, arms and rose joints whilst retaining genuine Elva uprights. Brand new radiators and pipework have been fitted, gearbox rebuilt, new driveshafts, fresh wiring loom and extinguisher system are also present. The sale includes both silenced and unsilenced exhaust systems so the car can be used in a vast selection of events and at almost every circuit. The interior features fresh switch and gauge panels with new racing harness, whilst retaining an Elva racing seat and steering wheel.

The car presents very well, looks the part in red with gold stripe and black Elva wheels wrapped in historic racing tyres. The car has just been tested and photographed at Castle Combe with no issues to report and is ready to be enjoyed by its new owner. Although it is ready to use with all the correct parts fitted for racing, it will require historic papers prior to competition. We are just in the process of gaining historic papers for the car and it has been confirmed the car can run in Masters Historics Sports Car Legends and HSCC Guards Trophy amongst other championships. A well-built, turn key homage to the Elva MkVII with many genuine parts. Viewing by appointment only.
